The race for the Auckland mayoralty is getting it’s biggest shakeup ever this year, and you have a one off-chance to sit down with, and hear from, the person who’s doing that shaking, at Coastal Kitchen this evening.

The almost unlikely combination of a former Labour cabinet minister – John Tamihere – with a former National minister and ex-Auckland mayor – Christine Fletcher – as his running mate, are challenging incumbent mayor Phil Goff, for the leadership of the biggest political entity in New Zealand outside of Parliament.

New Zealand voters go to the polls in October to elect their local government representatives, and before campaigning really steps up John Tamihere and his wife Awerangi have been having some time out in Rarotonga.

The Rotary Club of Rarotonga and the Cook Islands Chamber of Commerce, are combining to host a dinner and discussion at Coastal Kitchen this evening from 5.30pm and invite their members and members of the public to come and listen to this often controversial but always interesting speaker.

To help with catering people intending to come along should call Jaewynn on 55486  or Lynne at the Chamber on 20925  to confirm a seat. Tickets cost $20. Reservations are required by 10am this morning.
