Several businesses responded by donating cash and from these contributions Angene was able to purchase new equipment such as hedge trimmers, grass cutters, blowers, chainsaws and a new generator.
The NZ high commissioner Tessa Temata through her office donated $5,000 towards the cause following a proposal submitted under the Tupapa Oire Kumiti Tama.
Angene said he is very grateful to the NZ high commissioner for her generous support to the village.
His chief executive officer Terry Rangi said, “it should be noted that all members of Parliament have access to a small constituency fund which allows them to fund community projects within their community.
“These can include a wide range of community initiatives that benefit community groups such as growers, fishermen, small businesses and non-government organisations.”
Angene’s allocation had already been exhausted by March, but the need for help continued from there, and he put out the call for assistance to local businesses.
MP Angene is thankful and appreciative to the following sponsors and supporters: HE NZ high commissioner Tessa Temata, Tuki’s Pareu, Top Shape Hair & Beauty, Rarotonga Printing, Aquaflow, Cook Islands Game Fishing Club and Hartal Shop & Laundry.
