The community of Pokoinu in Nikao held the blessing and opening of their new water station on Friday afternoon.

Construction started at the beginning of the month and co-ordinator of the project Daryl Rairi said the community hall was selected for the installation of the water station due to its easy accessibility, parking space and safety - with the street light positioned directly in front.

“Everyone is welcome to use it, please look after it and don’t abuse it.”

Rairi would like to thank minister Vaine (Mac) Mokoroa for the stainless steel sink, Tina and Steve Matapo for the tiles, Irwin Hosking and Cam Vaiimene for the structure, and the community for helping out.

The other districts of Tepuka, Rangiura and Turama will soon have their water stations upgraded.
