Creative Trail walker James Talbot has fewer than 60 days left to complete the 3200-kilometre Te Araroa Trail in New Zealand.

Talbot is walking to raise $300,000 for the Creative Centre in Rarotonga.

He has so far managed to raise $11,366 through the Creative Trail Feb 2017, Givealittle page.

Donations can also be done through the Cook Islands ANZ fundraising account #410744 named  Creative Trail Feb 2019.

On Day 71 of his journal, Talbot said he walked from Whitby to Raumati where it rained from the Whitby roundabout through to just before Pukerua Bay.

Talbot said the road walking was easy as he made his way to the Escarpment track of about 10 kilometres.

“That was fun and such great views ... the steps were small and a bit fiddly but other than that it was all good. Got down off the track after 2.5hours

and on to the Paekakariki beach.

“The beach walk was nice underfoot all the way up the coastline to Raumati ... I deviated from the TA trail as I just wanted to walk down the beach ... missing home and the beautiful Raro beaches,” Talbot said.

Talbot reached Raumati in 7.45 hours walking a distance of 27.7 kilometres.

He was later picked up by Jo, his next billet.

He later met Jenna Morell and her daughter who was his children’s live-in nanny for many years and he also met a friend from Thailand and her daughter who is close friends with Imogen (Hamish and Jo’s daughter).

On Day 72 Talbot continued on to Mangaone Road end to Fenceline carpark.

He said the trail was initially through forestry land and looked like a bulldozer had been through it.

“It was very steep in some sections and I was only able to sneak a few pictures as it was raining lightly on and off all day. Arrived 3.15pm at Fenceline carpark and Rachel shot out to collect me which was awesome.”

Talbot walked 12.4kms in 5.75 hours.
