Fishing club’s AGM and some very big tuna

The Cook Islands Game Fishing Club (CIGFC) held its annual general meeting (AGM) last Saturday with one of the biggest numbers of about 80 members in attendance.

 

The executive committee for 2019 to March 2020 who were unanimously elected are: President – Apii William, Vice President – Willie Tuiravakai, Treasurer – Alouise Kado, Secretary – Melina Etches, Weighmaster – Kirk Dennison, committee members – Don Beer Jnr, Papa Ina Kaikura and George Ellis. Executive Officials: Patron – Phil Urlich, Auditor – Anthony Turua, Club Manager – Sharon William.

Papa Ina Kaikura was also inducted as a life member at the AGM, the other life members are: Papa Dick Marsters, Teariki Buckley, Phil Urlich, Peter Etches and Don Beer.

The CIGFC club membership has increased to approximately 333 members, subscription payments are now due.

Fishermen have recently been hauling in the big ones; two yellow fin tunas weighing 72.9kg and 53.8kg respectively, were reeled in on Monday evening by Nga Takaiti on board Te Kiva Nui.

Poe Poila with his brother Paku landed a good sized yellow fin tuna at Avatiu harbour on on their boat Manakia on Tuesday morning, the experienced fishermen also hooked many smaller sized yellow fin tunas.

On Tuesday night, Tepaki Baxter weighed in two yellow fin tuna each weighing 54.8kg and 42.1kg, aboard his boat Magken II.

Akura Fishing charters hauled in two marlin over the weekend weighing in at 70kg each, with several good catches of other species.
