A female driver was admitted to the Rarotonga Hospital after sustaining head injuries during a crash at the seawall in Nikao around 2am on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Trevor Pitt confirmed that the victim was admitted to the surgery ward and was responding to voices yesterday.

Pitt said at the moment preliminary indication was alcohol related. A blood specimen for an analysis has been sought.

A fatality occurred in this same area last month.

A statement from the Cook Islands Police said that they are once again reinforcing police messages around the risks that some drivers are continuing to ignore, particularly in the vicinity of Rarotonga’s most notorious stretch of road.
