CI News will be introducing the finalists in this years Miss Cook Islands pageant over the next fortnight.

Name: Abbeylee Tarita Dashwood

Age: 18

Vaka/Main Tribe: Ngati Teaka Tauira (Atiu)

Occupation: Receptionist/Waitress

About Abbeylee:

It’s no surprise that Abbeylee considers herself a tomboy – being the only girl with five older brothers will do that to you.

Abbeylee spent her formative years in rural New Zealand, growing up first in Morrinsville and then Rotorua. She is a Chiefs fan.

Her family moved back to Rarotonga when she was 15, and having grown up listening to the stories of “home” meant that she fitted in with relative ease, bringing those stories to life.

Abbeylee has an easy-going style and approach to things and has no difficulty attracting mates from all walks of life.

She enjoys reading ‘whodunnit’ and criminology genre books. She describes herself as “unique in my own typical way, yet very ordinary”.

Perhaps not so “ordinary” is Abbeylee’ s love of chess! She’s been playing the board game since she was six years old and has entered and won competitions since about then too.

Abbeylee entered this year’s pageant as she sees it as an opportunity to further grow and develop herself and learn – and her big brothers are supporting her in this journey.

She values every aspect of life and once she has her mind set on a project she says, “there are no limits once it comes to self-determination”.

When not either waitressing or working in the Eyes of Rarotonga optometrist office at the CITC complex in Avarua, Abbeylee enjoys watching rugby, playing basketball, and spending time with her cat and dog (hers is an animal-loving family). Music also plays a very big part in her daily life.

Whilst she can cook, Abbeylee is quick to point out that she’s not exactly a “keen cook”. She’s obsessed with sushi though and if invited to a potluck dinner she will more than likely bring along the family signature dish – mayonnaise!
