In a special ceremony on Tuesday morning, community members and church leaders came together at Nikao CICC to celebrate the laying of the foundations on the new home for Reverend Oirua Rasmussen and his family.

The home it will replace was over 45 years old and it was time to look at upgrading the residence, a spokesman for the project organisers said.

It is hoped the new residence will be completed by the end of this year, in time for the next major CICC ministers’ gathering to be held on Rarotonga early in 2019.

Opening the ceremony was Reverend Rasmussen, who with his family is living in the hall adjacent to the church, until the new house is completed.

A special feature of the ceremony was the laying of a number of stones by members of the congregation, special dignitaries and those in the community who had donated funds for the building project.

CICC president Reverend Tuaine Ngametua followed the stone-laying by blessing and dedicating the foundations, before all were invited to join in a kaikai.
