An appeal has been started to raise money for Friendly Mart owner Doreen Boggs, her staff, and their families after the iconic Arorangi store was destroyed by fire on June 14.

Launching their appeal on Facebook, organisers say any donations large or small are greatly appreciated and all funds will go directly to Boggs.

“Over the years Doreen has actively been involved in a lot of community projects,” the ‘Boggs Vaine Appeal’ Facebook page reads. “She has supported schools, culture groups, families with land matters, fundraising events and many more.

“I’m sure at some point in time, many of you have encountered this woman and her ‘amazingness’.

“Time to give back.”

Donations can be made in person at Apii Arorangi or at the Matex Shop across the road from Crown Beach Resort in Arorangi.

Alternatively, funds can also be deposited directly into the “Boggs Vaine Appeal” bank account at BSP Bank, account number 2000459483.

The June 14 fire completely destroyed the interior of the Friendly Mart store, although the structure remains standing.

Eyewitnesses told CINews that the fire started from the back of the store. There was no-one in the building when the fire started.

Another Arorangi store, Tex Mart at Betela, was also destroyed by fire last Friday night. Police are investigating both fires.
