The first flight was cancelled on Tuesday last week, after a crew member became ill. A Jetstar spokesman said the airline was attempting to replace the crew member when bad weather unexpectedly struck Auckland. Auckland Airport’s runways were closed and Jetstar was forced to cancel its flight to New Zealand.
The second cancellation occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. The spokesman said a crew member fell ill “mid-duty”. The aircraft then returned to New Zealand with no passengers.
It is believed the airline paid for affected passengers to stay at the Edgewater Resort for the night. The spokesman declined to confirm the costs involved with a cancelled flight.
