Keeping it green at night

Tonight the first ‘Keeping It Green Night Market’ will be held at Punanga Nui.

CITC sales and distribution manager Jane Wichman said CITC was approached by the Business Trade and Investment Board (BTIB) to sponsor the night market and thought this would be a great opportunity to continue to promote ‘Keeping it Green’, which is one of CITC’s core values.

Leading up to the night market, CITC has been running a ‘Keeping it Green’ colouring competition across all Rarotonga pre-school and primary schools.

“We have been amazed at the amount of entries we have received, which have totalled 540,” said Wichman.

The competition has been judged by Te Ipukarea Society, with the winners to be announced at the market tonight.

“Winners can collect their prizes from the CITC marquee at the market tomorrow evening and everyone is welcome to come and look at the winning entries that will be displayed around the tent,” said Wichman.

“There are five winners in each age group who will each take home a bag of goodies to the value of $50, which includes a lunch box, some stationery, a soccer ball and UHT milk provided by Fonterra, as well as other prizes.”

The market will run from 5pm to 9pm, with the prizes for the colouring competition being announced from 6.30pm.

“We would like to thank BTIB for giving us this opportunity to be part of the night market and hope to turn this into an annual event if all goes well,” said Wichman.

BTIB trade and marketing officer Mona Taio said they have 20 confirmed stalls for the market tonight, which also features live music and a dance performance to keep everyone entertained.
