Ake Lewis’ Atupa house was reduced to rubble in February.

Fire investigators say a faulty gas califont caused a blazing inferno which gutted the entire home. It took over 25 firefighters and four fire engines to bring the flames under control. The occupants lost a majority of their belongings and Lewis was left with nothing but memories of her home. On the positive side, no-one was injured in the blaze.

A fundraiser was organised at the start of last month to help with Lewis’ rebuild costs. Yesterday, the Bank of the Cook Islands (BCI) helped to further ease her burden by gifting Lewis’ a donation towards the rebuild.

Lewis said the money will be spent on building materials and that she was very grateful for the generosity shown by BCI.
