The iconic traditional leader’s casket will be transported to the hostel this morning, where she will be honoured during a special service. Her body will depart from the hospital mortuary for the hostel at 11.30am, led by Queen’s Representative Tom Marsters.
The casket will be received by the president Atiu Tumutevarovaro, followed by the Atiu anthem and a prayer service conducted by CICC president, Reverend Tuaine Ngametua.
A eulogy and genealogy will be presented as well as special addresses, including a speech from deputy prime minister Teariki Heather on behalf of the government.
On Friday there will be final prayers at the Atiu Hostel before the casket is transported to the VIP lounge at Rarotonga International Airport and on to an aircraft.
After a short prayer service in the lounge the aircraft will depart for Atiu carrying the casket and members of an official delegation.
