Bad start to year for driver

The new year started badly for a Kiribati national who was prevented from driving on Monday, after being breathalysed by police.

Police media consultant Trevor Pitt said the man had been spotted by police earlier, speeding in Ngatangiia.

“The zero tolerance policy against drink-driving means drivers who have been consuming alcohol are likely to be forbidden from driving even though they may not be over the legal limit,” Pitt said.

“Police are seizing vehicles from drivers until they are deemed sober.”
