Miss Cook Islands Pageant Association (MCIPA) president Clee Marsters made the announcements of these international competitions at a meeting of the MCIPA executive recently.
“Before Christmas, we will have two brilliant young women represent our country at international competitions. The Cook Islands has a lasting legacy at the Miss Pacific Islands and we are starting to grow our reputation at the Miss Asia Pacific International,” Marsters said.
“We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we have two representatives that are more than able to do us proud, Lydia Simons Tariu our Maine Kuki Airani and Ernestina Bonsu our Maine Tepaeru.”
Maine Kuki Airani Miss Cook Islands 2017 Tariu will represent the
Cook Islands at the annual Miss Asia Pacific International to be held in Quezon City, Philippines from November 24-30.
She will be accompanied to the event by former Miss Cook Islands Felicia George, who will also travel to the pageant to hand over the title she won at the competition last year.
George was the third runner-up at the 2016 Miss Asia Pacific International. MCIPA will send a representative with Tariu to support her campaign to the Philippines.
In a bid to raise funds to support her in this upcoming trip, an Island Night Dinner and Show will be held this Thursday at the Atiu Hostel featuring Tariu and the Amazing Moana Roa Dance Group led by Junior Tiko Tapurau.
Meanwhile Maine Tepaeru 2017 Ernestina Bonsu-Maro (Tina) will represent the Cook Islands at the annual Miss Pacific Islands competition to be held in Nadi, Fiji from December 1 to 9.
She will be chaperoned by Jayme Fuli-Roach, who along with a small team of choreographers and costume makers will travel to Fiji for the cultural pageant.
MCIPA president Marsters, who is also the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant board member for the Cook Islands, will be attending the annual board meeting held during the pageant.
“Team Tina is organising a similar fundraiser in Auckland at the end of the month to support her campaign to Fiji,” Marsters said.
“Be on the lookout for fundraising efforts by the support teams of our Miss Cook Islands titleholders, as they put their award winning campaigns together for these two international pageants.”
