Brown set to raise ‘super’ problems

Minister of Finance Mark Brown says the government will raise the issue of the Cook Islands National Superannuation Fund with the New Zealand government.

Brown told Radio NZ the government will be clarifying for their New Zealand counterparts the legal position of the National Superannuation Fund – “that it is not a fund owned by the government.” It’s been disclosed that many Cook Islands National Superannuation Fund members who qualify for the New Zealand Superannuation pension, will be adversely affected when their local pensions are deducted dollar-for-dollar from the New Zealand scheme. Minister Brown is expected to respond to questions from CINews on the issue. The Democratic Opposition have also been invited to comment.
