NEW ZEALAND-based Laura Collins and the Back Porch Blues Band are heading to Rarotonga in September and they reckon they’re ready to “rock the joint” with blues, boogie and banter.

“Wellington-based Laura Collins is first and foremost an entertainer, she’s all about the show and having a good time with the audience” says Mo Newport of Motone Productions.

“She likes to move between ballsy blues and soulful ballads, making them her own. You’ll hear songs by Nina Simone, Koko Taylor, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt and Laura's take on some unsuspecting men, Muddy Waters and BB King amongst them.”

The dinner and show events will be held at Cocoputt Ale House on Thursday September 1 and Friday September 2 at Sails Restaurant in Muri.

Laura Collins and the Back Porch Blues band are all long-time players on the Wellington and New Zealand music scene and Motone are excited to have these long standing blues artists in Rarotonga for everyone to enjoy.  Says Laura: “Blues comes straight from the heart and that’s just how I like it, it’s accessible, joyful, ‘heart-full’ music and not only that it makes me want to move. What’s not to like?”

The Back Porch Blues band includes well-known singer songwriter Wayne Mason, on keyboards.  A fine boogie piano player, he will be firing things up in the style of Fats Domino, think Dr John, think Professor Longhair. He will be providing great honky-tonk piano.

On guitar, John O’Connor is a long serving session player and producer on the Wellington music scene and has worked with Kiri Te Kanawa, Mark Williams, BB King, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. He plays pedal-free so all the guitar magic comes directly from his fingers.

In the engine room George Barris is on bass and is joined by local Kuki drum guru Motone drum guru Mo Newport.

“This band is set to 'bring out the boogie' so look out Rarotonga!” says Mo.

To book for one of these great shows contact Cocoputt on 27183 or Sails on 27349.

Dinner and show costs $60.00 and limited door sales are available for the show only at $15.00.
