The day saw many of those who attended putting up tents, with the attractive blue banners from almost every corner of the beach site.
CIFCA president Josua Tawakedrau said the event had been planned in celebration of the Fiji sevens team’s historic victory at the Rio Olympics and he was really happy to see a good turnout.
“The day was exciting and made even more enjoyable as the Fijians came in their colourful t-shirts and jerseys to celebrate our wonderful sevens team who sacrificed so much in not only making all Fijians, but the whole of the Pacific proud,” said Tawakedrau.
“We have seen it on social media and read it on the news on how crazy Fijians are right now in celebrating that victory, so we thought we deserved to celebrate too. It’s such a joyous occasion for us all, the Fiji team has done all of us proud.”
The day was fun with children enjoying running around the beach playing while the women prepared late lunch. The men of course had to make the celebrations more meaningful with a kava session..
“I would like to thank everyone who turned up for the celebration, I know many couldn’t make it because of work or other commitments but I’m glad that everyone who were there on the day had fun and was happy,” Tawakedrau said.
