THE COOK ISLANDS Fijian Community Association (CIFCA) will hold a family picnic day for all Fijians living on Rarotonga at the Black Rock beach in Nikao (opposite Black Rock Restaurant) at 2pm today.

CIFCA president Josua Tawakedrau said the event was in celebration of Fiji 7s team’s victory at the Rio Olympic Games and that Fijian families and friends are welcomed to be part of the celebration.

“The dress code for the day will be beach wear and we encouraged all Fijians to come in their Fiji 7s jersey or Fiji t-shirt to make the day more exciting and more enjoyable in celebrating Fiji’s first-ever gold medal victory,” said Tawakedrau.

He said families were being asked to provide pot luck food for today’s fun day.

“You can also bring in our own drinks, Fiji Gold or kava, grog to the beach and barbecue will also be provided during the day.

“Kids can bring their swimming gear, beach towel and picnic gear to the beach as tent, tables and chairs will be provided by the Fijian Community Association.”

Tawakedrau said Fiji winning its first Olympic medal was a huge achievement for the country and the Pacific Islands and they wanted to be part of the celebrations.

He called on everyone to come together as a community to celebrate this historic moment.
