German visitor Amelie Laute is pleading for help from members of the public after her bicycle was stolen from the Whale and Wildlife centre last Tuesday.

Laute, an intern at the Ministry of Marine Resources said the theft took place on Tuesday afternoon between 2pm and 3.30pm.

She said she bought her bicycle just two months ago as a means of transportation.

“I live in Matavera and I really need it back urgently because it’s my only transportation around the island.”

She said the past few days had not been easy for her. “I’ve been hitchhiking for the past few days and it’s nice to meet people who are generous enough to offer me rides and I get to tell them about my missing bike.

“At the moment I’m borrowing someone’s bike until I find my one.”

Laute said she reported the matter to the Cook Islands Police and hopefully they would soon be able to provide her with an update on their investigation into the theft.

“If somebody stole it please return it back to me, the Whale Centre or the Ministry of Marine Resources.” Anyone with information about the missing bike can contact Laute on 71928 or email her on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The bike is grey with green highlights, the words “cruiser” and “STAR,” a green “Ride Raro” sticker and thin tyres.
