The Cook Islands Road Safety Council is putting more emphasis on educating the younger generation on road safety.

As part of its educational programme, CI Road Safety Council will organise a colouring competition next Saturday in a bid to increase its road safety awareness campaigns.

CI Road Safety Council vice-president Peka Fisher said the competition was part of road safety week that ends today (Saturday).

She said council members were overwhelmed with the positive response they had been received from students who wanted to take part in the colouring competition.

“We’ve had great feedback and even a few schools asking for copies to be taken in for students which for us is great to hear in terms of participation and these kids will be learning about road safety,” Fisher said.

“In under a week we’ve got over 100 entries which is fantastic.”

The programme is sponsored by the Health Ministry in collaboration with Ride Rarotonga.
