A NUMBER of countries around the world produce black pearls, but an upcoming, one-of-a-kind event will definitely be setting the Cook Islands apart from the rest.

In one week, the Pearl Festival Cook Islands society will play host to roughly 200 guests at its inaugural ‘Marina Long Table Dinner’ – an affair that hopes to broadcast to the world that we have a black pearl industry.
The evening will see guests seated on a 65-metre long table set up at Avatiu Marina, creating the atmosphere for the “... most exotic long table dinner in the world,” according to  Alexis Wolfgramm of the Pearl Festival Cook Islands Committee.
The evening’s menu, featuring a four-course meal to be matched with three different wines, is being developed by the Cook Islands Chef Association (CICA).
Chefs Sam Timoko and Phillip Nordt will be leading an elite team of eight cooks and 16 service staff to ensure guests are treated to an unforgettable evening of local flavours that will be presented with unique island style.
Two silent auctions, live music, and a special gift to take home will round out the evening.
The dinner is part of the ongoing development of the annual community-based Pearl Festival - an initiative backed by the Cook Islands Pearl Authority, which provides a desk for festival organisers to work from and contributes to ticketing and promotions.
The Festival’s committee is hoping to trial a number of events over the next year that could become the foundation events for an annual celebration of Cook Islands pearls.
Wolfgramm says each event will have a partner from a community sporting, social welfare or school association.
“We think the Long Table Dinner is an event that could be just the right opportunity for companies to celebrate their own achievements, to reward good clients, good service or good staff, or even to impress some prospective clients,” she says.
Pearl Festival Cook Islands ‘Marina Long Table Dinner’ will be held next Saturday October 11, commencing at 6pm.
Reserve your place at the very, very, very long table for $175 per person. Corporate and group bookings of 10 or more are priced at $150 each.
Tickets are moving fast, so make your move now to be part of this exotic event.
Ticket reservations and information can be made through Wolfgramm at 29055 or 54547.
