Movers and shakers in the nation’s tourism industry were out in full force on Friday evening for the 2013 Air New Zealand Cook Islands Tourism Awards. Held at the official residence of the NZ High Commissioner in Ngatipa, the theme of the event was “Tourism, Then and Now”, complete with classic Polynesian music and a little retro dress thrown in to the mix. On hand to grab his 2013 ANZ Bank ‘Outstanding Contribution to Tourism’ Award was Pa Teuruaa of Pa’s Nature Walks.
On receiving his award – Pa unravelled two Cook Islands flag and gifted one to Cook Islands Tourism Corporationg chief executive officer Halatoa Fua telling him that the tourism office in Avarua ought to have a Cook Islands flag flying in front of it.
Other big winners on the night included ‘Supreme Award’ winner Pacific Resort Group - which brought home a total of four awards - along with Highland Paradise Cultural Centre and Makayla Palms at two awards each.
