Fireworks, dance parties, great food – and something for the children too.

It’s all go on the island tonight, as Rarotonga counts down from 2019 into the New Year.

Whatever your idea of a good time, you’ll soon discover that there will be something to cater for all tastes. Have a great night, but stay safe – and whatever you do, don’t drink and drive.

If you want to put some spark into your night, Sails Restaurant and Isobar will launch a fireworks show from the midnight countdown as a double celebration for their New Year’s Eve party, and to commemorate their 30th birthday with a Bonnie & Clyde theme.

Party time starts at 6pm and ends at 2am and there will be live music from local band Triggerfish followed by DJ GG.  

Getting home safely should be a priority for everyone on New Year’s Eve and On the Rocks will provide ashuttle bug” for you and your friends for $10 per person (minimum four people), to return home safely from the celebrations.

There will be a gift on arrival for those who are Bold to Wear Gold Dress to impress and win spot prizes. The bar will open from 7pm to 2am, VIP tickets are available for $50 each that include five drinks, tickets are limited. Book your seat on the shuttle buggy, call 71123 or 70027.  

Rehab Nightclub Rarotongahas a BeDAZZLE themed evening to see in the New Year, and those in costume will receive a free drink.

The popular VIP tickets have sold out, so entry at the door tonight is $10. The doors will close at 1am. The bar will open from 9pm to 2am with groovy sounds by Mark Zow, DJ Junior and Habsinth. For those who need transport home please see the staff.

Trader Jacks has DJ Nae sounds from 8pm to midnight. Dinner is from 6pm – 9pm. Not to be outdone, the Cook Islands Game Fishing Club bar will open from 1pm and karaoke will start at 8pm.

The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Lagoonariumhas entertainment for all ages – and they’d like you to dress in the loudest, boldest outfit you’ve got. Meanwhile, Nautilus Resort and Restaurant will serve an elegant eight-course set menu at $111 per person.  

Muri Beach Club Hotel will host a Masquerade in Paradise and guests will receive a glass of bubbles upon arrival and unmask at midnight. The four-course dinner starts at 6pm with live music. Bookings are essential  

Edgewater Resort and Spa has a New Year’s Eve Black & White Party with a Gala Dinner, Polynesian show. Entertainment will be by Super Highway Boyze. At 9pm there’s a Polynesian Show by Te Moana Roa dance team and a live band with Tina Tumupu.

Pacific Resortwill host a New Year’s Eve Gourmet Buffet dinner, including entertainment and Polynesian dance in the Sandals Beachfront Marquee. For those looking for something a bit more casual there will be a family barbecue option in the garden marquee.  

Margaritas Bistro & Bar will host aParty Central”, with a surprise DJ. The party kicks off at 3pm. At the Hula Bar’sRainbow City, everyone will come together for a musical evening with a live band, celebrations start at 5pm and end late. Meanwhile, Luna Baris open from 9pm until late and there’ll be a live band.

Vaiana Bistro & Baris open from 11am to 10pm, with the Avarua String band Mamas singing local tunes at 6pm.

Transport Cooks Buses will run their normal schedule on New Year’s Eve, with a special midnight departure at 12.15am from Cooks Corner travelling clockwise.

And an important reminder: if your motorbike is confiscated by police because you’ve been caught driving over the alcohol limit, the penalty for the storage of your vehicle is $50 and an extra $50 per day (24 hours) to hold. The owners of cars, vans, trucks will have to cough up $100 per 24 hours in storage and a $50 removal fee.
