Last Friday’s tourism awards gala event helps promote quality assurance in the industry and building destination excellence.
That was the message from chief executive Halatoa Fua of the Cook Islands Tourism Corporation, reflecting on the 2013 Air New Zealand Cook Islands Tourism Awards.
“The gala night was fantastic and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the speeches, the food, announcing the award winners and enjoying each other’s company,” said Fua. “It was pleasing to see the tourism industry step back from their normal operations and celebrate the awards and the gala night together.”
The premier award handed out during the evening – the Air New Zealand Supreme Award – went to the Pacific Resort Group, which brought home a total of four awards.
“Rewards and recognition are a way to encourage the tourism industry to strive for excellence and continue to strengthen its unique selling points and value proposition,” said Fua.
The chief executive said businesses applying for the awards find the process useful, as they can review strategies and “think of where they want their business to be in the long term”.
“The Cook Islands Tourism Corporation would like to congratulate all the winners and finalists of the Air New Zealand Cook Islands Tourism Awards and the Cook Islands Tourism Industry Council for organising this special event,” added Fua.
