Cook Islands resorts pick up trophies

Two Cook Islands resorts have picked up awards in the World Travel Awards this month.

The 20th annual World Travel Awards took place on October 1 at the Palm Resort and Spa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Little Polynesia snapped up an award for the leading boutique hotel in the Cooks. It is the sixth consecutive year the hotel has won the title.

Manager Sam Napa accepted the award for the Cook Islands Leading Boutique Hotel for 2013, and picked up the trophy for the same award from 2012 at the same time.

Pacific Resort Aitutaki captured three awards, also qualifying the five-star boutique resort as finalists for the ‘world’s leading’ category. The awards included Australasia’s Leading Boutique Resort, Cook Islands’ Leading Resort and Cook Islands’ Leading Villa Resort.

All regional winners will now compete head to head in a final round of voting to decide who will triumph in the World Travel Awards’ world awards. The winners will be announced in December.

Chief executive officer of Pacific Resort Hotel Group Greg Stanaway said he is proud of Pacific Resort Aitutaki’s achievements.

“I am delighted that the combined efforts of our owners, management team and staff is being recognised with these accolades as we continue to enhance our guest experience at Pacific Resort Aitutaki”, he said. “More importantly it is an acknowledgement by our global travel partners that they have great confidence in our product and our delivery".

World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge excellence across the tourism industry.
