Just Play was launched in the Cook Islands in 2011 and has now spread to two of the outer islands within the southern Cook Islands – Aitutaki and Atiu.

Just Play is designed for children aged from 6 to 12 years and is based around structured activity programmes as well as the distribution of equipment packs containing balls, cones, bibs, activity manuals and other resources that enable children to play football at any time and in any situation.

At monthly village festivals Just Play also includes a number of other sports and will be centred on various social messages.

The programme has been implemented with primary school teachers and community group leaders throughout Rarotonga and is the initiative of Oceania Football Confederation.

Just Play is a sport for development programme funded by Australian Aid, New Zealand Aid, UEFA Foundation for Children and UNICEF.

This year the Just Play programme would also continue its #End Violence Campaign.

Just Play project manager Michelle Paiti says: “It’s another exciting year where we look forward to sharing important social messages with both children and our communities to help improve lifestyles for our future generations.”
