The Ministry of Health will conduct its end of year Tutaka programme in Rarotonga, starting next week.

The 10-day health inspection programme which starts on Monday, will see health inspectors visiting homes to ensure the surroundings are well maintained.

Following the rainy spell, there is a high chances of a rise in mosquito breeding sites and the ministry is requesting public to clean and destroy mosquito breeding and “resting” places.

Health officials are hoping that there will not be a repeat of the situation last year, when the mosquito-borne virus Chikungunya hit Rarotonga, making hundreds of people extremely ill.
