Deputy Principal Ms Okotai said she could see that a lot of the students were happy to be back at school.
“The children were thrilled to meet their new teachers and see what classroom they were going to be in, and of course they were excited to be with their friends again,” she said.
Apii Avarua caters for students from Year 1 to Year 8, as well as providing early childhood education for three and four year olds.
Okotai says the school will continue to focus mainly on literacy and numeracy.
“Our objective is to make sure that every student not only enjoys themselves at school but improves in their learning across all subjects.
“We want to ensure that the students are learning well and enjoying their school work,” she said. Apii Avarua has one new teacher this year, teaching Year 7 students, and Okotai says the other staff members are excited to be working with her.
“We also have quite a few relievers this year to help our students excel as well,” she added.
Ten-year-old student Ordine Nga said she is pleased to be back at school and is ready to learn all that she can.
“My goal this year is to top my class and pay attention in every lesson,” she said. “English is my favourite subject because it is fun to learn.”
