Three hundred students have enrolled into Apii Nikao this year and the school is going to great efforts to provide quality education for each and every one of them.

Principal Elizabeth Kapi says despite the large number of pupils, the school is open for even more enrolments this year.

“We have two new teachers who will boost our numbers to 16, and three teacher aides. With this (number of staff) enrolment can still continue.”

Kapi said 2017 opened up new challenges for pupils and staff, and they were eager to meet them.

“We are grateful that a temporary building for grades seven and eight was completed in time and the building looks great. It is able to provide accommodation for 66 of our senior students.”

Apii Nikao’s main aim this year is to continue its work in providing quality education for the students in a quality learning environment.

Kapi said the first day of school is always exciting especially for those students who are returning to school after the summer holidays. For those who had come from other schools the day offered the challenge of a new environment, and for other children it was an even bigger step - their first day in school.

She said a new project for the school this year was their new school uniforms which are now available at Tuki’s store in Avarua.

“We are giving parents a cutoff date till the end of this school term to purchase the uniforms and by next term we will have all our students in uniforms. We are looking forward to this.”

This week students were settling into their classes and preparing for another year of learning, she added.
