CLOSE TO 100 students in Rarotonga are expected to graduate from the Cook Islands Tertiary Training Institute (CITTI) next month.

CITTI director Caroline Medway-Smith confirms that the students will be graduating with certificates from food and beverage, barista, bartending, culinary arts and hair and beauty courses.

Medway-Smith said the number of students participating in these courses has increased by at least 20 per cent compared to last year.

“Students or people who apply to get into CITTI are more interested in courses like culinary art (cookery), bartending, barista and first-line management,” Medway-Smith said.

She said the success of CITTI’s students is the primary focus for the institution and they aim to support every student that chooses to study with them so they may reach their full potential.

“We have a wide variety of programmes being offered in Rarotonga and 2017 also sees us offering community education programmes in Mangaia, Aitutaki, Atiu, Penrhyn and Pukapuka.

“We have also collaborated with schools in the Southern Group to establish trades and hospitality learning programmes for secondary school and adult students,” she said.

She said CITTI offers an array of very popular community education programmes.

“This year CITTI and high schools will collaborate by offering a variety of Level One and Level Two Hospitality programmes to senior students who are perhaps thinking about hospitality as a career or for those students who may not be driven by an academic pathway,” Medway-Smith said.

She said the courses are designed to involve two days at school, two days at CITTI and one day a week in an industry.

Meanwhile, CITTI is also looking to expand its suite of business and administration and Management programme offerings and is excited to introduce the Refrigeration and Air conditioning  course which is a new programme offered through CITTI’s Trades school in Arorangi.

“All of the courses included in our CITTI prospectus 2017 offers opportunities for many to develop new skills and a lot of work forces recognises skill development with internationally recognised qualifications while for others, the recognition is the satisfaction from knowing you have learnt something new”.

The graduation ceremony with be held at the National Auditorium in Avarua in February 24 at 1pm.
