APII Avarua’s prize giving ceremony has been acknowledged as the best award celebration, with Prime Minister Henry Puna has attended at the end of this school year.

Speaking at the school’s celebration last week Puna said, “I have been to other schools; this is the best so far, an occasion that’s meant for celebration.”

The prime minister said the celebration recognised the achievements students and teachers have both worked hard over the whole year.

Acknowledging Avarua’s busy year as it was also their centenary celebration; Puna heaped more congratulations on the students and teachers for their achievements.

“Life is not a sprint, it is a marathon, the future is ahead of you, life goes on, school goes on, education/ careers must go on. Don’t give up.”

He said to the students who had not received awards this year, they must not feel discouraged but plan a goal and aim higher next year.

School principal Engia Baxter thanked parents, teachers and students for another “victorious” year for the school.

The 100-year celebration would not have been successful had it not been for a supportive team, staff and parents, she said.

She added that the school was looking forward to another challenging year in 2017.
