Discussions on the construction of Apii Nikao have gained momentum following a recent visit to Rarotonga by officials from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The team assigned to complete the work on detailed design and construction planning will be in country before the end of this month and will work with the project team at Cook Islands Investment Corporation (CIIC).

The detailed design is prepared by the CIIC team in consultation with the school community and education officials. The construction company is also expected to mobilise soon.

A number of different approaches to the project will be discussed, with the aim of ensuring a high quality building that is fit for purpose and meets the needs of the Apii Nikao learning community.

The school recently held its prefects’ investiture which was well supported by family and friends.

Apii Nikao’s learning theme for this term is “being special” with learning focused on making the students and Apii Nikao special.  Students are involved in discovering their unique talents, characteristics, values and recognising and respecting the differences in each other.

Principal Elizabeth Kapi says she is extremely pleased with the way the year has started and the high level of motivation the students have towards learning and success.

“Students are engaged in their learning, there is collaboration between teachers and students and the children are enthusiastic about their learning and being at school.”

Kapi said they are all looking forward to start of construction of the new school, but that is not stopping students and teachers from focusing on their daily schedules.

“Our focus is on student learning and supporting students in developing the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the next level of their learning and enjoying the challenge of learning new things at the same time.”         - MC/Release
