2016 is all about achieving “excellence” national college principal Tania Morgan said yesterday when she welcomed all new and returning staff and students into the Tereora College family.

A total of 52 faculty members and 686 academic achievers congregated in the Princess Ann Hall yesterday for a traditional welcoming to launch the start of the new education year.

Among the 52 faculty members are 13 new recruits who have accepted the challenge to work alongside Principal Morgan in raising the ‘excellence’ bar for this year.

The newcomers are: Adrian Cooling, HOD Technology, Adrian Hopwood, HOD Health and PE, Mark Wallis, Guidance Counsellor, Christina Guinivatu, Accounting, Glenys Perry, Digital Technology, Colleen O’Neil, Mathematics, Selwyn Cleland, Mathematics, Tiffany Andrews, English and Media Studies, Tupa Tupa, English, Elizabeth Bishop, Cook Islands Maori, Pipirangi Heather, Year 8, Metua Teariki, Year 8 and Emina Tararo, Office Administration.

Morgan also acknowledged the 233 new students who have arrived from neighbouring schools, the pa enua and overseas, and who initiated their new academic journey with the college.

“I feel so proud of the achievements we have made as a college over the past year, and will continue to maintain my stance as a proud leader for the college,” said Morgan during her address to the school.

“Excellence is not something that just happens, and it  is not something that we can simply pluck out of the air; it takes hard work and commitment, which will be an expectation from each staff and student.”

Morgan told CINews that in addition to their main goal of achieving excellence, their drive is towards introducing more pathway options for students and to ensure those that leave the school are well equipped, informed and secure with options of where to after school and to maintain that communication and support.

Tereora will continue to accept enrolments throughout the year and encourages those who have yet to enrol to do so as soon as possible to secure your subject options as classes are filling up fast.
