It was all excitement amongst students, who were back to school after a long break, on Monday. Children assembled in their new classrooms greeted by their new teachers, ready for a new school term.

Students said they were happy to be back at school with their friends.

Avarua Primary School Year 6 student Aketa Maro is keen to work harder this year and aim for the dux award.

“My favourite subject is English because I’m good at it,” said Maro.

Another Year 6 student Nicolea Mateariki said, “My mum’s my teacher here and it’s sometimes funny and embarrassing when she growls at the children.”

Roma Daniel from Avarua said he likes getting new stationery.

Year 7 girls said they sometimes spend their lunch time breaks playing soccer and rugby with the boys.

Students take spare clothes to school to play sports during their lunch break to keep their new uniforms clean.

Mr Savage, a mathematics, science and physical education teacher, is the favourite amongst the Year 7 girls at Avaura Primary School.

“Our next period is PE with Mr Savage, he’s our favourite teacher because he is so funny,” said Faith Iro.
