Four new faculty members and about 45 new students and their families were welcomed on to the school grounds and officially acknowledged by returning principal George Rasmussen.
Among the four new staff members was St Joseph’s Iokimi Narovu who has taken up the challenge as Nukutere’s new Director of Religious Studies.
Also joining the faculty family is Charlie Kapuvai, relieving mathematics teacher, Joyce Kirkham, HOD English and JC Cajita, HOD Information Technology.
With Nukutere being the sister school to primary school St. Josephs’ there was no surprise that a majority of their new recruits arrived from there, with the others joining from other education providers across the island and overseas.
Students were excited to be back at school and even more excited when principal Rasmussen confirmed that their first academic day was to start on Tuesday to allow them time to familiarise themselves with their classes, peers and teachers.
This year, principal Rasmussen and staff have made it their priority to focus on five major goals for 2016, one of them being to improve on their 2015 level 1 NCEA results with the focus on improving pass rate, pre-external exams and increasing subject and NCEA endorsements.
Irrespective of officially starting yesterday, Nukutere is still accepting students and will continue to do so until maximum capacity has been reached.
