An extra Air New Zealand aircraft was to arrive in Rarotonga last night to pick up some of the passengers whose travel plans were delayed when Friday’s NZ60 service to Auckland was cancelled.
Yesterday CINews was unable to get confirmation of the extra flight from the airline’s Auckland public affairs department. However, local travel industry sources, who asked not to be named, said they had been told an extra Airbus A320 flight had been scheduled.
An Air New Zealand announcement on Thursday said the Friday flight from Rarotonga to Auckland had been cancelled due to a crew shortage.
An airline spokeswoman said passengers from the cancelled flight had been rebooked on either NZ45 or NZ1347 which left for Auckland yesterday at 3pm and 10.25pm, but did not mention an extra flight was being organised.
Yesterday morning’s flight from Sydney to Rarotonga operated as normal and landed at around 6.15am, but the aircraft is understood to have later flown to Auckland without passengers.
