The tourism industry will tonight celebrate excellence and outstanding performance with the announcement of the winners of the 2018 Air New Zealand Cook Islands Tourism Awards.

Held at the National Auditorium, the awards night will recognise the effort of the top performing members of the industry.

The chairman of the awards organising committee, Adrian Hopwood, says tourism is a diverse and challenging industry that contributes over 60 per cent of the Cook Islands’ gross domestic product (GDP).

Finalists will anxiously await the announcements in various categories including marketing, environment, adventure/eco-tourism, culture tourism, community development, visitor experience/customer care, employer of the year, and business excellence.

Other special awards will also be announced, headed by the outstanding contribution to tourism and lifetime achievement in tourism awards.

“These important awards would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, including the title sponsor Air New Zealand, and our Gold and Silver sponsors,” said Hopwood.

He thanked the sponsors of the tourism awards for supporting the event.

The gold sponsors include BCI, Bluesky, BSP, CITC and Cook Islands Tourism. The silver sponsors are Cook Islands News, Cook Islands Sun, Ministry of Cultural Development and the Pitt Media Group.

“One of our gold sponsors, BCI, is bringing in Sir Graham Henry KNZM, former head coach of the All Blacks and one of the most successful coaches to ever coach the All Blacks, as our guest speaker.

“He is sure to provide much inspiration to the tourism industry in his keynote speech.”
