Quietness and melancholy drifted around the island yesterday morning – the first Sunday without the usual gathered church services.

Churches have abided by government’s request to cease all gathering of 10 persons or more, no singing and to avoid public places, amid the coronavirus crisis.

Many have decided to conduct family prayers at home.

The Avarua Cook Islands Christian Church Reverend Vaka Ngaro presented a on the air service on the local radio yesterday.

The Apostolic Church enacted home groups, Celebration on the Rock posted their service on social media, and the Catholic Church live streamed their service for parishioners.

The cathedral will continue to stay open for those who wish to visit and pray privately.
