Matthew Payne's dramatic new exhibition, “Infinite Horizon”, opened on Monday, September 3 at the Bergman Gallery.

Comprising eight new paintings depicting Rarotonga’s iconic beaches, Infinite Horizon impressed the large crowd gathered to celebrate the event.

Guest speakers included Tinpot Hut Winery owner and winemaker Fiona Turner, CITC pharmacist Shannon Saunders and exhibiting artist Matthew Payne.

Saunders explained her lifelong connection with Payne’s wife Jennie, and how the exhibition had come about at Bergman Gallery.

Payne’s remarks centred on the influences in his work and how he had enjoyed the opportunity to connect with Rarotonga.

Said Bergman Gallery director Ben Bergman: “Matthew has an innate ability to capture what he sees and what he feels. I think that too often, we take for granted the amazing scenery that we are blessed with on Rarotonga.

“And when we see it re-presented so beautifully through another’s eyes, it gives us a chance to revaluate and appreciate what we have free access to on a daily basis.”
