Aitutaki wins junior drumming

Aitutaki were crowned the CITC Coca-Cola Junior Tangi Kaara champions after an intense battle of beats at the CITC Shopping Centre carpark on Saturday.

The competition, which had participants in teams under the age of 16 years, took part in the composed and creative beat competition for $6000 total prize money.

Apart from winning the top place and $2000, Aitutaki also scooped the youngest drummer, most bubbly team with lots of fun and enjoyment, most points in composed beat and most points in creative beat prizes.

In total, Aitutaki raked in $2500 from the competition.

Puaikura finished second and settled for $1000 while Tongareva managed the third place finish and $750.

CITC key brands manager and event coordinator George George was pleased with the drummers and the skills they displayed during the competition.

He said the competition was a way of conserving the tradition of drumming which the country is well known for in the world.
