The Cook Islands Police Service had a relatively quiet weekend, attending only a handful of minor incidents.

A Cook Island Police Service spokesman has confirmed that a police officer has been interviewed as part of an investigation in to an alleged assault that occurred at Rehab Nightclub in Avarua on June 7.

The Cook Islands Police Service says the service they provide to the community is “often taken for granted and perhaps not fully appreciated”, after it was revealed officers responded to 247 incidents last month, an average of eight a day.

Visitor accommodation continues to be the largest target for burglars, the latest statistics released by the Cook Islands Police Service show.

OCI could choose next PM

One Cook Islands (OCI) leader Teina Bishop says he is feeling “better than ever” following last Thursday’s general election.

The 2018 General Election is not over yet, with negotiations between independents and both major parties beginning yesterday.

The 2018 general election has come and gone and preliminary results have given the Democratic Party (Demos) 11 seats in parliament. The Cook Islands Party gained 10 seats. One Cook Islands (OCI) won one seat and two independents also gained seats in parliament. Cook Islanders have sent a strong message to the next government, with 63 per cent of the country calling for reform in CINews’ 2018 election poll.
