Mataora Pukeiti is accused of intentionally taking a blue Honda Wave motor cycle worth $3000 from Tupapa on February 23.
Defence lawyer Mark Short had requested for his bail and police disclosures.
However, police prosecutor senior sergeant Fairoa Tararo objected to bail and told Justice of the Peace Georgina Williams that Pukeiti was currently on probation and resided with someone who was also before the court.
The motorcycle was stolen from outside the Mangaia Hostel, the property of Tieni Ra’ea.
The victim had approached the accused, who was squatting in a house not belonging to him at the Tupapa back road and later informed the police of his whereabouts.
JP Williams said Pukeiti would be bailed once a suitable, reliable home was confirmed.
The matter has been adjourned to July 2.
