Police are on the lookout for a man who has been offering to sell fish but fails to produce any after he has been paid for it.

And they’re advising people to treat with caution anyone promising to deliver goods in exchange for cash, or hawking produce around the island’s communities.

Cook Islands Police Service spokesman Trevor Pitt said officers had arrested individuals for similar scams in the recent past and wanted to alert the public to any suspicious behaviour.

“Please exercise care if approached at your home by strangers in such a manner, and do not hand over money to people you don't know unless you are sure of the transaction.

“The reality is that some people cannot be trusted.”
