Coroner looks into road death

The Cook Islands coroner is looking into the death of a man in a road accident earlier this week.

A man in his 20s died after the motorcycle he was driving towards Muri hit a concrete wall in Matavera on Wednesday night.

Police said they received the report of the accident at 6.17pm.

The man was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner at the scene of the accident.

Police said they had referred the case to the coroner and would not make any further comment on the matter.

The death follows a number of road incidents over the past week.

Cook Islands Police have repeatedly warned people to take extra care while using the road during the busy Te Maeva Nui period. However, it seems the warnings have fallen on deaf ears, with instances of dangerous driving witnessed daily by regular road users.
