Yesterday Police CIB investigators were investigating burglary involving several thousands of dollar, - the second such theft in less than a week.
“The latest incident was reported to the Police on Monday. Cash and alcohol were stolen.”
Police also arrested a suspect yesterday in connection with a break-in at an Arorangi establishment, a week and a half ago.
Earlier, in an email to CINews, Pitt said a Cook Islands Television crew had called him regarding the apparent sighting of someone attempting to light a fire in the port of Avatiu area, and a subsequent arrest.
However, he dismissed the alleged arrest of an arsonist as gossip and “unhelpful speculation”.
“There has been considerable gossip. But I shouldn't have to point out how serious these incidents are and the need for clear information, and to avoid hysteria.
“That goes for the causes of the fires. Police investigation work is ongoing and particularly sensitive. “There won't be any disclosures unless the police are clear on specifics and details to help resolve these incidents.
“There is an ongoing appeal for anyone to provide information that will be useful to the investigative efforts.”
