The altercation allegedly took place at Taputapuatea in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday, April 24. It is believed that the incident began after the alleged “victim” threw something at one of the alleged offenders.
In a release posted to their Facebook page, the Cook Islands police said they were alerted to “a fight at a nightclub soon after midnight”. They went on to say a woman had been “beaten by two other females”. According to one report, the victim was “punched and kicked in the face whilst on the ground”.
The police say two males were also charged in relation to the incident.
“Upon fleeing the scene, the victim was pursued and assaulted again” say the police. The police eventually identified two women, who were subsequently arrested and charged with fighting in a public place. It is said the “victim” required medical treatment for her injuries.
However, the police then confirmed that the “victim” had also been arrested and charged, becoming the fifth person to face charges relating to the incident.
The investigation is still ongoing and it is believed that there are a number of witnesses yet to give their statements.
CINews understands the police will be withdrawing or amending a number of the charges.
All of those involved have interim name suppression.
