Just four cases were heard by Justice of the Peace John Whitta at the Avarua High Court on Thursday.

Two excess breath alcohol charges for Toru Nooroa and Josevata Buli were adjourned. Nooroa entered no plea and Police Prosecutor Fairoa Tararo requested the case be held over as there were still matters to be worked through regarding the charges.

Nooroa was advised to seek legal counsel and the case was adjourned until January 18, 2018. Buli’s case was adjourned until January 25, also allowing him time to seek legal counsel and decide a plea.

No plea was entered by Munokoakura Pita who was charged with driving a motorcycle while disqualified. His case was adjourned until January 25 to give him time to find a lawyer. The defendant was bailed at large.

Teikamata Ki O Rongo John Fortes Pareanga appeared on a charge of theft. JP Whitta advised the defendant to keep himself quiet and behave, and suggested he seek legal counsel in time for his adjournment to January 18.

Pareanga will then also face an earlier charge of possession of a utensil for drug use. His bail conditions will remain until then.
