Expensive drink for local man

Being caught drink-driving proved expensive for a local man when he appeared in the High Court on Thursday December 8.

Jonathan Samuel was convicted and fined $350 plus $30 court costs with a 12 month driving disqualification after pleading guilty in the

High Court to a charge of exceeding the breath alcohol limit.

Ngatokoono James Tara appeared on charges of assaulting a female and contempt of court. Defence counsel Rasmussen said he had yet to receive disclosure for the contempt charge, and sought an adjournment until December 17.

Paranish Avinesh Naicker appeared on a charge of assaulting a female. Time was granted for Naicker to seek legal advice before his next appearance on February 4, 2016.

Tairi Miriau pleaded guilty to a single charge of wilful damage. A sentencing date was set for January 28, 2016.
