The problem? It seems drivers simply aren’t listening, and keep indulging in the same bad behaviour.
Three motor vehicle crashes were reported to police during the weekend and all three crashes were allegedly alcohol-related.
One of the accidents happened on the back road in Avana, Ngatangiia, another occurred on the back road in Arorangi near to the Arorangi Prison. The third was on the main road at Matavera, in front of Takitumu School.
All three drivers underwent blood tests at Rarotonga hospital and the results will determine whether they will be prosecuted by Police.
Police also received a burglary complaint from a resident in Arorangi village after a man gained entry into her house while the family were sleeping in the early hours of the morning. The man returned to the same house several times later in the morning and Police are still investigating the matter.
Two thefts were also reported to police during the weekend where electronics and personal items were taken. A private residence and a tourist’s rental car were targeted and both matters are still under police investigation.
There are still ongoing concerns about drink-driving on the island and police urge the public to take the appropriate action to avoid tragic events.
They say they will continue with their road safety campaign in coming days and those that are caught will be prosecuted
